Another wild, wet and windy night at Navan on Wednesday night as a dozen runners had also to deal with an unseasonal warm 13 degrees in the 5th leg of the time trial series over 3,000 metres.
It was the two Shane’s, McCaul and Connolly, that led the group through an opening lap of 75 seconds and the pair were still together at 800 metres in 2.34,hitting the mile mark at 5.17. At 2k reached in 6.41 McCaul had opened up a slight gap on Connolly and produced a last lap of 77 seconds to hit the line in 10.09 just 4 seconds clear of the 19 year old UCD student. Following on from his 2.52 Dublin Marathon, Shane now sets his sights on the Copenhagen marathon next May.
Bridget Daly, with an eye on the Boston Marathon next April, was on her own most of the way opening up with an 89 second lap and 3.07 for 800m. She passed the mile mark in 6.23 and the 2k in 8.04 before crossing the line in 12.15 clear of Marion Morris for her 2nd consecutive win.
The series will conclude next Wednesday night 13th December with a surprise session for the final blowout before Christmas.
Well done everyone – good running in the conditions
